China wants someone to run world's largest telescope
China is looking for a chief scientist to run the world's largest telescope, but can't find any takers for the job. The 500-metre Aperture Spherical radio Telescope or FAST, is located in the Guizhou province and was built to look for extraterrestrial life. Building The World's Largest Radio Telescope | Impossible Engineering
What's really out there? China is helping us find out. On September 2016, China unveiled the world's largest radio telescope, and has started test operations searching for signals to understand the origins of the universe and the Big Bang. This 500 metre Aperture Spherical Telescope, or FAST, has been constructed over 5 years in a 45 million year old crater in Southern China. The remote location is highly unlikely location to be affected by flooding, and far from human interference which may affect the telescope's readings. The 500m dish surpasses Arecibo radio telescope, leaving it in second place as the Chinese telescope is 3 times more sensitive in detecting radio waves thousands of light years away. Inside Tour of FAST the World's Largest Radio Telescope: Explore Scientific Experiences
On my recent tour to China, we had the privilege of being invited inside the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). This project managed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences will allow astronomers to observe to the early beginnings of the universe. I note that I said that the universe is roughly 12.8 billion years old in this video, according to the results of the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data, the age of the universe is 13.772±0.059 billion years. FAST needs to employ around 300 astronomers to work at the observatory, and currently there is a shortage, which poses some challenges to get this instrument up to full performance capacity. It was a fascinating tour and we hope that you will someday visit the site, once the visitor's platform becomes available. China joins SETI in new effort to discover extraterrestrial life
The search for answers as to whether we are alone in the universe just got a big boost from China. The FAST radio telescope in Guizhou, China is joining forces with U.S. researchers to comb the stars and the planets.CGTN’s Mark Niu reports.
Meet the man behind the reflector panels on the world’s largest radio telescope
FAST (Five-hundred meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope) is the world's largest radio telescope, and entered operation on September 25 2016, in a mountainous region of southwest China's Guizhou Province. As large as 30 football pitches, the dish is made of 4,450 large reflector panels, work on which began in 2011, with the mission being to further explore space and look for extraterrestrial life. Zhou Yonghe is a leading craftsman who was charged with the task of accurately fitting the last of the 4,450 panels into the center of the dish. Together with his colleagues, Zhou installed more than 400,000 mini reflector panels, finishing his task one month ahead of schedule. Subscribe to us on Youtube:

FAST RADIO BURSTS, discovery and mystery: "The FRB enigma"
In 2001, a radio telescope detected a very short and strange signal. It seems to come from a very distant galaxy. It was the first 'Fast Radio Burst' (FRB) observed, a mysterious signal that can teach us invaluable information about the content of the Universe. FRBs have been often in the news all around the world, although the information reported by the press has often been misleading. In this video we follow the scientific method to dig into the FRB enigma.

China begins operating giant telescope to explore deep space
China has taken a big step forward in space exploration: a huge radio telescope - the largest in the world - has begun operating from its base in the southwest of the country. Its mission includes trying to understand better the origins of the universe, and searching for extraterrestrial life. The telescope's giant dish, 500 metres across, was finished in July and has now started receiving signals from space according to Chinese scientists. Engineers say more than 100 tests were performed in…

FAST: World's largest radio telescope launches in China
A giant radio-telescope is ready to scan the heavens from a mountainous province in southwestern China. It's called "FAST": for 500-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope. CCTV's Tao Yuan reports.
UK professor’s hopes for FAST, the world's largest radio telescope
CCTV’s Tao Yuan has interviewed Peter Wilkinson, Professor of Radio Astronomy at the University of Manchester, who was one of the earliest backers of FAST, the 500-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope which is set to begin operations in southwest China’s Guizhou Province. Let's take a look. Subscribe to us on Youtube:

China completes world's largest alien-hunting telescope
ET, phone Beijing. The final triangular panel in the world’s largest radio telescope was lowered into place this weekend as Chinese officials amped up the hunt for alien life. If intelligent beings lurk in the universe, the spectacular new Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST) is uniquely equipped to find them, promised Peng Bo, director of the National Astronomical Observation (NAO). Exclusive & recorded live: installation of world's largest radio telescope completes
Follow Xinhua journalist Miao Xiaojun to witness the installation of the last panel of world’s largest radio telescope FAST in southwest China’s Guizhou. The project now enters adjustment period and is expected to start operation in September.
Construction of Largest Telescope Completes
Construction of the world's largest telescope, the 500-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST), has been completed as the last reflector panel was hoisted onto the frame in Pingtang County, southwest China's Guizhou Province, on Sunday. With a 1.6-kilometer circumference and 4,500 panels, FAST is expected to be able to detect radio signals from more than 1,000 light years away when it is fully functional. With a similar design to the Arecibo Observatory, it utilizes a natural hollow to provide support for the dish. The project's builder, the Wuchuang Shipbuilding Industry Group, used its unique air transfer and flexible hoisting plan to accelerate the project progress. Reflector panel is the core device that decides the telescope's radar coverage and detection precision. With a side length of 10 to 12 meters, each reflector panel is composed of 100 triangles and is made to millimeter level fabrication precision. With a total cost of nearly 1.2 billion yuan, the FAST project began in 2011. It will be the world's biggest single-aperture spherical radio telescope, and the most sensitive radio telescope in human history. The FAST will be put into operation this September, China's National Astronomical Observatories (NAO) said FAST will find more pulsars, thus help them gain more understanding of the "big bang".
