The Making of The Cave Nebula Image
Eric Coles will demonstrate processing on his APOD winning Cave Nebula image. He will do both the Hubble Palette image, the RGB and enhanced HRGB image. The processing would be done live starting from the stacked linear images to the final published images. The Hubble Palette image would be done using tone mapping. The RGB image would be done in a standard way, with the addition of enhancing the detail with H-alpha data and enhancing the red emission region also with H-alpha data. Those two final steps are what makes the final image really pop. There will also be some discussion of image framing. LIVE:Astro-Imaging for Science
Have you ever wondered, “Can my images be useful for astronomical research?” The answer is “yes”. There is a worldwide community of amateur astronomers who are doing scientific imaging with their modest instruments, and professional astronomers who take advantage of the amateur’s data. However, there are a few significant differences between imaging for artistic beauty and imaging for scientific data. Bob Buchheim will describe the principal issue; how they impact the way you gather, reduce, and analyze of your images; and some of the ways that small-telescope CCD and DSLR imagers can contribute to astronomical research.
LIVE:Making the most out of dark site visits and star parties
