Geminid Meteor Shower 2020
In this video, we will learn about the meteor shower known as the Geminds which occurs for a period of two weeks at the beginning of December. The peak of the shower usually happens on December 13 and 14. We will examine the cause of these meteor showers occur and get practice with identifying the constellation of Gemini since that is the radiant for this meteor shower. Chapters:

How Meteorites Have Affected Human Civilization with Werner Herzog and Clive Oppenheimer
Would Humans be on Earth if not for Meteorite Impacts?
Joining John Michael Godier on Event Horizon are directors Werner Herzog and Clive Oppenheimer. Following their Academy Award-nominated work on “Encounters at the End of the World” and Emmy-nominated “Into the Inferno,” Werner Herzog and Clive Oppenheimer’s new film “Fireball: Visitors From Darker Worlds” takes viewers on an extraordinary journey to discover how shooting stars, meteorites and deep impacts have focused the human imagination on other realms and worlds, and on our past and our future. The Insider's Guide to the Galaxy: All About Meteor Showers and Meteorites
Thumbnail provided by RASC Montreal Centre member Samer Hobeika. When better to talk about meteors and meteorites than on the peak of a meteor shower? Tonight is the peak of the Leonids Shower, and we'll be talking about what makes some meteor showers better than others. We'll be joined by expert guest Bryon Czarnik who will talk to us about how to find, identify, and even buy meteorites. We'll have lots of time to answer questions and will go over some astronomy highlights coming up in the next two weeks, too!
Simulations Reveal How Planetary Impacts Affect Atmosphere
A cross-section of a 3D simulation replicating a scenario for the impact that formed the Moon, showing a roughly Mars-mass impactor grazing an Earth-like target at a 45-degree angle. The simulation uses over 100 million particles, colored by their internal energy, related to their temperature. This is one of more than 300 simulations that scientists at Durham University in the United Kingdom, alongside researchers at NASA's Ames Research Center in California's Silicon Valley, ran to develop a way to predict how much atmosphere is lost from a wide range of collisions between rocky objects, presented in a new study. A Year of Exceptional Meteor Showers
If you like watching the skies for meteors, you will have noticed a spate of announcements of exceptional meteor showers this year. Some brief flurries of meteors from long-period comets, some more extended periods of activity of new showers from other comet types. SETI Institute meteor astronomer Peter Jenniskens talks with Beth Johnson about the growing global network of video security cameras that is providing alerts when unusual showers are being detected (http://cams.seti.org/FDL/). To read more about the CAMS global network, read Peter Jenniskens' article at:

Perseids Meteor Shower 2020
The Perseids Meteor Shower is an annual celestial event that occurs from mid-July to late August. In 2020, the Perseids Meteor Shower peaks on August 12. Seek out dark skies and go out early in the morning to see this amazing event! In this video, we will review why meteor showers occur and explore the comet known as Swift-Tuttle, since the debris from this comet is what causes the Perseids to occur. We will also get practice with identifying the constellation of Perseus since that is the radiant for this meteor shower. Chapters:

What is the Perseid Meteor Shower? | Perseids 2020
The Perseid meteor shower is one of the best meteor showers of the year. It peaks on the night of August 11 and the wee hours of August 12, 2020. Meteors are often called “shooting stars,” but they’re not really stars at all. The Perseid meteoroid stream comes from the debris of Comet Swift-Tuttle (109P), which last passed the Earth’s orbit at the end of 1992. Perseids are very fast, but these meteors are a bit faint, with few fireballs, so the best time to view them this year is in the evening before midnight, as the light of a Last Quarter Moon this year will obscure all but the brightest meteors when the Moon rises around midnight local time. Drone footage generously donated by Corvid Aerial Solutions (https://corvidaerial.com). Meteors as seen from space simulation by meteorshowers.org.

Live Coverage of the ETA Aquarids Meteor Shower PEAK NIGHT!
The main activity will occur last couple hours before Dawn...Weather Permitting 40 Per Hour Possible
What is the Eta Aquariid Meteor Shower? | Eta Aquarids 2020
#EtaAquariids
The Eta Aquariid meteor shower peaks on the night of May 4 and the wee hours of May 5, 2020. Meteors are often called “shooting stars,” but they’re not really stars at all. The Eta Aquariid meteoroid stream comes from the debris of Halley's Comet, which last passed the Earth’s orbit in 1986. Because the meteoroids from Halley’s Comet approach Earth head-on, Eta Aquariids are very fast, and a number of them tend to leave behind them glowing trails that can linger for a few seconds. However, these meteors are relatively faint, with few fireballs, so the light of a nearly full Moon this year will obscure all but the brightest meteors when the Eta Aquariids peak on the morning of May 5th. Drone footage generously donated by Corvid Aerial Solutions (https://corvidaerial.com). Meteors as seen from space simulation by meteorshowers.org.

Lyrid Meteor Shower at Lowell Observatory | Lyrids 2020
#Lyrids - Watch the time-lapse video here: https://youtu.be/9GpGnXGIZ4Q. Every year in late April, the Earth passes through the debris left by Comet Thatcher, and this creates the Lyrid meteor shower. Join Lowell Observatory at 9pm AZ/PT on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, for a live stream of the Lyrids, hosted by meteor expert, Dr. Nick Moskovitz. We’ll use the All-Sky Camera at the Lowell Discovery Telescope to hunt for meteors together. After that, you’ll be ready to find more on your own, when the Lyrid meteor shower peaks in the hours before dawn. Learn how to observe the Lyrid meteor shower here: https://youtu.be/5akU484mM_w. 00:00:15 - Dr. Nick Moskovitz | Meteors and Meteoroids

SpaceX Starlink Satellites While Waiting For Lyrid Meteors!
Monday 20th and earth morning of the 21st April I had set my camera up to see if I could catch any of the Lyrid meteor shower. About 4 or 5 hours into the shooting (to the right side of the video ) you can see a great display of the SpaceX Starlink satellites as they blaze through the night sky. The Lyrid meteors peak on the evening of the 21st and early morning of the 22nd. Their radiant point is near Lyra the Harp (in the NorthEast) near the bright star Vega.
