Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter - Eyes on the Moon
https://brilliant.org/CuriousDroid
We're going back to the moon hopefully in 2024 but compared to the 1960's we need to know a lot more about the moon than we did then if we are to make permanent bases there. So to this end, the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter was created to map the moon in greater detail than ever before and in the process, it did what no other orbiter has managed to do and that find and image the Apollo sites after 5 decades of being out of sight to us. China to exhibit historic lunar soil samples
China’s National Museum is actively preparing to exhibit the lunar soil samples its Chang’e-5 lunar probe brought back last December. It marked the first time after 44 years human beings were able to collect lunar samples. The museum has reportedly designed a special container to store the samples. Its design was greatly inspired by ancient Chinese copper goblets.
The Insider's Guide to the Galaxy: Observing the Moon
Anyone anywhere on Earth can see the Moon, even if you live in the biggest of cities! It’s our closest and most easily observed celestial neighbour. Join us to learn a little bit more about how to observe Earth’s only natural satellite, and where to look for extinct volcanoes, scars of recent impacts, whimsical shapes, colourful patches, and more. China Launches Historic Chang’e 5 Lunar Mission to Collect, Study Moon Rocks
China launched its Chang’e 5 lunar mission that will attempt to bring back moon rocks for the first time in four decades in Wenchang, China, on Monday, November 23, 2020. If successful, the Chang’e 5 mission would allow scientists to study newly obtained lunar material for the first time since the American and Russian missions of the 1960s and 1970s. The mission is among China’s most ambitious as its space program continues to develop since putting a person in space in 2003. Lunar Landing Sites, Past and Future
Lunar Landing Sites: Past and Future
Talk with Brian Day, Deputy Staff Scientist at NASA’s Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute Fifty years ago we were in the midst of human exploration of the Moon through the Apollo program. In this presentation, we will look back at each of the Apollo landing sites, why they were chosen, what made these locations so fascinating, and what we learned from them. He will then look ahead to potential future landing sites that were identified during NASA’s Lunar Science for Landed Missions Workshop, and why we are intrigued by these locations. ABOUT BRIAN DAY
Brian Day is Deputy Staff Scientist at NASA’s Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute where he also serves as Lead for Lunar and Planetary Data Visualization and Analysis. He has participated in various Mars analog field studies in extreme, Mars-like environments here in Earth. He previously served as Education and Public Outreach Lead for the LCROSS and LADEE robotic missions to the Moon. In 2007, he flew on NASA’s Aurigid MAC mission to record debris from Comet Kiess burning up in Earth’s upper atmosphere. HOW TO WATCH

Excavating the Moon's Icy Regolith — We Want YOUR Ideas
NASA is looking for ideas on how to excavate the Moon’s icy regolith, or dirt, and deliver it to a hypothetical processing plant at the lunar South Pole. The NASA Break the Ice Lunar Challenge, a NASA Centennial Challenge, is now open for registration. The competition will reward new ideas and approaches for a system architecture capable of excavating and moving icy regolith and water on the lunar surface. Water on the Moon. Didn't we already know that?
Last week there was an announcement about finding water on the moon. What's the news? For one thing, the water is located on a part of the moon that is sunlit. And there may be more water than we previously thought. Join Franck Marchis in a discussion about this discovery with SETI Institute scientists Dana Backman, Coral Clark and Pascal Lee. They'll talk about SOFIA and infrared astronomy, explain how the water was found, and consider the implications for future human exploration.

National Astronomy Day & International Observe the Moon Night | September 26, 2020
Sponsored by Findlay Toyota of Flagstaff (https://www.findlaytoyotaflagstaff.net)
Part 1 | 6:30-7:15 pm: Robert Burnham and his Celestial Handbook
Robert Burnham, Jr. compiled one of the most popular astronomy books ever—the three-volume "observing bible," Burnham’s Celestial Handbook—while working at Lowell Observatory in the mid-20th century. However, Burnham’s life was tragic in many ways. In celebration of National Astronomy Day, we will take a look at the complicated man who brought the wonders of space to people around the world. Lowell Observatory Historian Kevin Schindler will host a discussion with journalist Tony Ortega, who in 1998 wrote the defining account of Burnham’s life; Donna Courtney, Burnham’s niece and only surviving relative; and Brian Skiff, renowned sky expert who has worked for nearly 40 years at Lowell Observatory as an observer and research scientist. Part 2 | 7:15-8:00 pm: Celebrate International Observe the Moon Night with live views of the moon from the Giovale Open Deck Observatory (weather permitting). Join Lowell Observatory educators for a tour of the moon's surface and learn about past and future lunar exploration.
