Three new missions are going to Venus. NASA's DAVINCI+ and VERITAS will investigate Venus' atmosphere and provide the highest-resolution maps of Venus since NASA's Magellan mission in 1989. ESA's EnVision spacecraft will follow-up just a few years later. These missions will give us our best look yet into why Venus went from an Earthlike planet into the poisonous inferno it is today.

What Do We Hope To Learn By Sending New Probes To Venus?
NASA's latest batch of discovery missions was VERITAS and DAVINCI+ both of which are targeted for Venus. NASA hasn't sent a spacecraft there since 1989. And by the time these launch it'll be close to 4 decades since NASA has seriously studied Earth's nearest planetary neighbour.
DAVINCI+ is built around a single atmosphere probe which will allow more photography of the Venusian surface than has been captured by all the missions to Venus so far. The mass spectrometer and other instruments will analyze the atmosphere on the way down and look for chemical clues as to the planet's history. As well as keeping an eye out for phosphine which may indicated some complex chemical processes in the atmosphere.
VERITAS brings a new level of mapping capability, allowing the surface to be captures with 100 times the detail previously generated by Magellan

NASA is Going Back To Venus
In Sept 2020, Scientists found phosphine in Venus's atmosphere. Phosphine is a well known colorless and odorless gas and it's is a possible sign of life inside Venus's clouds. Last time NASA visited Venus was 30 years ago in 1990 since then no space mission has been done on Venus. So, NASA has selected 2 missions: DAVINCI+ and VERITAS.
1. DAVINCI+
DAVINCI+ will consist of a probe that will slowly descend. During descent, it will sample the air from atmosphere and study the chemical composition of Venus's atmosphere. Before landing, it will take first ever photos of Venus's surface.
2. VERITAS
VERITAS will consist of a orbiter around the Venus. It is going to map Venus's surface with high resolution allowing scientists to created a 3D map of Venus. VERITAS will also study the Venus's central core size and try to understand how Venus became a dead planet.

What NASA hopes to learn on two new missions to Venus
NASA is planning to venture back to Venus for the first time in more than three decades.
The space agency says it will launch two missions to study the mysterious planet: one named DaVinci Plus to measure the planet's toxic atmosphere and another named Veritas to map Venus’s surface.
Eric Sorensen explains what NASA hopes to learn from the solar system's hottest planet and when these missions will begin.

NASA Science Live: We’re Going to Venus - NASA Selects Two New Missions
Venus, our planetary neighbor, is a hot, hellish unforgiving world. Its toxic atmosphere and sweltering surface make it a challenging place to study, and it’s been over 3 decades since NASA visited Earth’s evil twin...until now! NASA is sending two bold new missions to study this inferno-like world: DAVINCI+ and VERITAS. Join mission experts Thursday, June 3 at 3:00 p.m. ET on #NASAScience Live and submit your questions for them to answer using #askNASA.
Meet the experts:
Dr. James Garvin is the Principal Investigator for the DAVINCI+ mission. His lifelong passion for Venus began in the Fall of 1979 and he says having the DAVINCI+ mission selected is a dream come true. Dr. Garvin is looking forward to exploring many exciting areas of Venus but says that it will be epic to see the Venus mountains at human scales in 3D with DAVINCI+. When he’s not dreaming about going to Venus, Dr. Garvin loves taking walks with his wife and their dog Glenda and watching ice hockey.
Dr. Susanne Smrekar is the Principal Investigator for the VERITAS mission. She was first hooked on the incredible intrigue of Venus when she was ‘in the room’ with the great minds of geology and geophysics, watching data arrive from the Magellan mission over 30 years ago. It has been her lifelong quest to understand how Earth and Venus have diverged. In her free time, she loves to mountain bike, run, hike and be outside.
Nasa announces two new missions to Venus, the first in more than 30 years
Nasa has announced it will return to Venus for the first time in more than 30 years with two new missions amid a renewed global interest in Earth's nearest planetary neighbour.
The two missions will launch between 2028 and 2030 and will study the atmosphere and geologic history of the planet.

NASA's Return to Venus
Venus, our planetary neighbor, is a hot, hellish unforgiving world and NASA has selected two bold new missions to study this inferno-like planet: DAVINCI+ and VERITAS. Are Venus and Earth fundamentally unique worlds? Or are the differences between these ‘twins’ only cosmetic? Answering this question is key to understanding what makes other rocky planets habitable and, ultimately, emerge with life.
